Hand hygiene Infection Prevention and Control Policy for General Practice
Handwashing is the one of the most important procedures to prevent the spread of healthcare associated infection.
Hand decontamination has a dual role to protect both the patient and the healthcare worker from acquiring microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses, which may cause them harm. Hands may look clean but invisible microorganisms are always present, some harmful, some not. Removal of microorganisms is the most important factor in preventing them from being transferred to other people.
Hand hygiene education for staff to support compliance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008: code of practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance and CQC requirements is provided in the ‘Preventing Infection Workbook and Guidance’.
A downloadable Community IPC Policy for General Practice which can be adopted by your organisation is available below. Also suitable for use within Dental Practice and Podiatry.
Alternatively, a complete set of IPC Policies are available to purchase @ £85.99, including postage – details can be found on the flyer and resource order form.
