Background

One of the biggest infection prevention and control (IPC) challenges faced by Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT) community dental practices is to meet Care Quality Commission standards and to motivate staff in IPC.

Solution

Our Community IPC team developed a ‘Preventing Infection Workbook for HDFT Community Staff’ which we found far easier and more convenient to use than the Trust’s e-learning packages. From a managers’ point of view, it was easy to check the answers and discuss any questions that were incorrect.

Outcome

The workbook is a good tool as staff are able to refer back to it. It provides verifiable training used as evidence for CQC compliance. It supports me when discussing infection control with new starters. I would recommend the workbook as I have seen improvement in IPC practices since its introduction and have been well supported from the IPC team and I know I can ring anytime.
